Language apps are wonderful tools — they teach grammar, build vocabulary, and give learners the confidence to start speaking. But there's a layer of every language that textbooks and apps often overlook: the slang, the sayings, the idioms — the expressions that make no literal sense but perfect cultural sense.
Our founder discovered this firsthand while living in Italy. A friend casually said 'in bocca al lupo' — literally 'in the mouth of the wolf.' It's how Italians wish someone good luck. The correct response is 'crepi il lupo' — 'may the wolf die.' Respond with 'grazie' instead and you'll get a puzzled smile.
Textbooks and apps often overlook these important parts of every language. And yet understanding that small exchange — its humour, its superstition, its warmth — unlocked something profound about Italian culture and the people who speak it. That moment became IdiomBridge™.
